Our story

A smoother cup, from the forest floor

For thousands of years, people have brewed mushrooms as a warming, earthy drink. Today, a growing group of coffee drinkers blends their coffee with ground functional mushrooms — lion's mane, chaga and others — for a cup that is a little smoother, a little less sharp and a little more interesting than plain coffee. Bolete blends roasted coffee with these mushrooms, dried and finely ground, so each cup carries the rich, woody character of the forest alongside the coffee's warmth. It is coffee, with a forest in the background.

How it's made

The mushrooms are dried and ground to a fine powder, then blended with roasted coffee beans in measured proportions. The blend is packed fresh, so the coffee and the mushroom character both come through in the cup.

How to use it

Brew it like your usual coffee — a scoop of grounds in a drip, a press or a moka pot. It works black, or with milk and a little sweetener. Enjoy it as a cup of coffee; it is not a medicine or a substitute for one.

Good to know

Does it have caffeine?

Yes — it is coffee, so it contains the caffeine of the coffee beans. If you want less, choose a lighter roast or use less.

Is it a substitute for anything?

It is a cup of coffee — a smoother, more interesting one. It is not a medicine and not a substitute for one.

Are these mushrooms safe to drink?

These are common culinary and traditional mushrooms, dried and ground, not a medicine. As with any new food, if you are unsure or have a health condition, check with your doctor first.

How do I brew it?

Brew it exactly like your usual coffee — a scoop of grounds in a drip, a press or a moka pot. The instant version just needs hot water and a stir.

What does it taste like?

It is a cup of coffee with a richer, woodier, earthier character. The mushrooms smooth out the coffee's sharp edge, so the cup is a little gentler and more interesting.

What is in it?

Roasted coffee blended with finely ground dried mushrooms — lion's mane and chaga among them. The mushrooms are dried and ground, then blended with the coffee in measured proportions.
